🎹Releasing Music

What is funded?

A Blak Hats Music release is a fully funded, label-supported, multi format release project.

Funding is provided for:

  • Production, Mixing and Mastering

  • Artwork

  • Promotional Imagery/Videos

  • PR and Marketing

How artists are chosen

Blak Hat Pass holders can nominate artists via the submission section of our Discord and decide upon a pool of potential artists to receive funding and support for a release. For each new release the Blak Hats Music team will select a voting field of artists from the pool based on:

  • Agreement of participation and release plans with the nominated artists

  • Consideration of our fundamental policies of promoting maximum career impact/viability, genre variation and opportunities for all.

The full details of all the various release plans will then be presented to the Blak Hat Pass holders to vote upon. The artist with the most votes will be approached to confirm their release. The release project will then be funded and considered ‘greenlit’.

How the release is created

Then we enter the ‘production period’ and the music is written and made. During this time regular progress info will be supplied to the Blak Hat Pass holders including:

  • Artist production updates, either written or video-diary style

  • Early demos of music, clips of videos etc.

  • Opportunities to be involved with the early promotion and impact of the release

The music is released

Finally, we hit the release day. This could comprise of:

  • An exclusive opportunity for our Blak Hat Pass holders to mint the bespoke, limited-edition release NFT

  • Full streaming and digital download release across all platforms

  • Physical medium and merchandise (release plan dependent)

After release the Blak Hats Music community (and team) will continue to push and promote the release, to drive the project, the artist and the music to be as big and successful as it can possibly be.

Simple and fair contracts

All artists are only required to sign a transparent and fair contract for the single that Blak Hats Music release; as a label, we won’t be offering long term/multi release contracts designed to lock in creatives for huge chunks of time. Artists are free to work with whomever, and do whatever they choose with their other creative endeavours.

Artists are not required to recoup any of the costs incurred to create the release from their royalties, all costs are absorbed by the Blak Hats Music treasury funding. This means that, unlike a standard label, artists will start making royalties from every sale, from the date of release.

The artists are entitled to 50% of all income generated by the release, digital, streaming, physical, sync or anything else - a sizeable increase from the industry norms.
